Ixtapa Attractions and Tours

When planning the outdoors in Ixtapa, you can count on three professional Golf Courses, Lit Tennis Courts, open air restaurants and bars and many beaches to choose from, including a small island that breaks the tide to make swimming and snorkeling a more relaxed activity. If you like water sports, sailing or fishing Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo have them all. The Ixtapa water front has one of the best beaches all along the Mexican Pacific Riviera and you will not want to leave, but you must go and visit Playa La Ropa with its beach wear and souvenir outlets as well as small restaurants with the catch of day fish. Other outstanding places are Playa Linda and the fishing village of Barra de Potosi. You must also go down and stroll around Zihuatanejeo which is a more formal and urban town with additional services, Restaurants, stores and items you might not get at the Ixtapa Shopping Center.  Prices in Zihuatanejo will also be much more attractive. When going to Zihuatanejo, don’t forget the Museum of History and Archeology a worthwhile spent hour.

Ixtapa also has its Historic value and treasures. The area known by its Pre-Hispanic name of Cihuatlan, was important to the leading aborigine groups before the arrival of the Spanish Conquers in the 16th Century. Local Museum of History and Anthropology has the heritage of the ancestral civilization, carrying vases, objects, capes made from cotton and utensils found locally and which tell the story of how the people of Cihuatlan got related to the dominant Pre-Hispanic Cultures, such as the Aztecs, Toltec, Olmecas and even the Huicholes from Nayarit. Special tours will take you along the countryside and in to the Tropical Forest, places where you will be able to see different animal species in their common habitat. But if you prefer, you can watch them at the Natural Park, adjacent to Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo.
