Ixtapa Attractions and Tours

Ixtapa also has its Historic value and treasures. The area known by its Pre-Hispanic name of Cihuatlan, was important to the leading aborigine groups before the arrival of the Spanish Conquers in the 16th Century. Local Museum of History and Anthropology has the heritage of the ancestral civilization, carrying vases, objects, capes made from cotton and utensils found locally and which tell the story of how the people of Cihuatlan got related to the dominant Pre-Hispanic Cultures, such as the Aztecs, Toltec, Olmecas and even the Huicholes from Nayarit. Special tours will take you along the countryside and in to the Tropical Forest, places where you will be able to see different animal species in their common habitat. But if you prefer, you can watch them at the Natural Park, adjacent to Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo.
