Monterrey, Mexico’s Second Industrial Vibrant City


Monterrey Mexico is the third largest City in Mexico with over 3 Million Inhabitants. It is a vibrant city, which although had historical and physical limitations, grew to become Mexico’s Second Industrial City, manufacturing all sorts of products for Mexico and the World. During the 20th Century it was recognized for its outstanding entrepreneurial performance and its huge Industrial and infrastructure development. Today those who travel for business or for pleasure, find a well organized City with World Class facilities and services.


But to reach today’s extraordinary status, it was not easy. Monterrey had to confront many substantial boundaries which overcoming them fortified its people and their business leaders. Other areas in the in the Country were better rewarded by Nature with more water, better soil and climate. The aborigine migrations show how these groups preferred other areas of the Country for their settlements. Nevertheless mines with iron and coal backed up heavy industry development. Monterrey is surrounded by Mountains which having a more temperate climate do produce water which is pored and pumped in to the city supporting the population’s and Industry needs. Another favorable aspect is Monterrey’s proximity to the United States border just over 130 miles away from Laredo, TX which enables industry to place products in the largest market in the world. Monterrey does have important land marks in History and shows the testimonial of its heritage in the Historic District, the Fundidora Park with its today inactive Mills and Melting facilities, converted in to a popular and tourist attraction, as well as the Obispado Museum, in addition to many other places to visit. Monterrey has two Airports, “Del Norte” and Mariano Escobedo, Both towards the North and west of Monterrey
 

To better understand Monterrey, when you review the story of the Pre-Hispanic culture, you will find no formal legacy of any major outstanding culture. There are assumptions of about 300 pre-Hispanic groups in the surrounding areas of Monterrey, but these were mainly nomads dedicated to hunting, fishing and recollection of whatever nourishing produce they could find. With the Spaniards, Monterrey was founded 3 times before succeeding in its beginning in the year 1638 mainly based on Mining Activities. Once established, the Colonizers promoted additionally to the mining activity, live stock rising, agriculture and trade. Mining activity had developed transportation of minerals on mule back and so, they also commercialized their products on Mule back towards other neighboring cities. The 19th Century brought the Independence from Spain War all over the Country, as well as the political movements that influenced Monterrey. During the 20th Century, 1910 to 1928, Mexico experienced a Nation wide social Revolution. Nevertheless, the entrepreneurial groups had the vision of supporting the proper forces and were left in peace to continue developing their industrial setting at a moderate pace. During the Forties and Fifties, industry boomed and Monterrey got large migrations from the rural areas heavily contributing to the enlargement of the City. By this time and for the rest of the 20th Century, exchange and integration with other areas of Mexico, as well as the settlement of export manufacturing plants based on Monterrey’s consolidated infrastructure, took the City’s Urban area to exceed the 3 Million inhabitants mark with the beginning of the 21st Century.
